TMC MP Saugata Roy and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Criticize Union Budget 2024-25
New Delhi [India], July 23: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy expressed his dissatisfaction with the Union Budget 2024-25, stating that it fails to address major issues like unemployment and inflation. He also mentioned that states have not received their fair share, with only Andhra Pradesh and Bihar benefiting. Roy criticized the heavy focus on infrastructure investment, which he believes will take a long time to show results.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also criticized the budget, calling it politically motivated, directionless, and anti-people. She accused the budget of being biased and not serving the common people, claiming it was designed to appease one party. Banerjee also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for making false promises during elections and neglecting regions like Darjeeling and Kalimpong after securing votes.
Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her seventh consecutive Union Budget, making history as the first finance minister to do so. Sitharaman outlined key priorities aimed at fostering economic growth, including productivity in agriculture, employment and skilling, and infrastructure development. She introduced income-tax reforms and proposed the creation of employment for about 4.1 crore youth over the next five years, with significant allocations for skilling and upgrading industrial training institutes.
