TMC MP Mahua Moitra Criticizes Union Home Ministry Over Disciplinary Action Against Kolkata Police

On July 8, TMC MP Mahua Moitra criticized the Union Home Ministry for taking disciplinary action against Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and Deputy Commissioner Indira Mukherjee. The action was based on a report by West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, who accused the police of improper conduct.

Moitra took to social media to express her outrage, calling the action ridiculous and accusing the Governor of misconduct. She claimed that the Governor had harassed women in his office and called for better regulation of Governors.

Senior TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee also questioned the action, calling it hilarious and shameful. He argued that the Governor had defamed his position and that the disciplinary action could harm India’s federal system.

The Governor’s report highlighted several issues, including the police denying victims of post-election violence the opportunity to meet with him and promoting false claims by a female employee. The report was also sent to the state government.
