TMC MP Mahua Moitra Criticizes BJP Government in Lok Sabha
New Delhi, India – Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra strongly criticized the BJP government in the Lok Sabha. She highlighted that four out of the five members of the ethics committee that recommended her expulsion have not returned to the House. Moitra compared her protection by the people of Krishnanagar to Lord Krishna protecting Droupadi.
Government Stability
Moitra argued that the current government is unstable, relying on allies with a history of changing sides. She pointed out that the BJP has fewer seats compared to the last Lok Sabha elections, dropping from 303 to 240 seats.
President’s Address
During the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, Moitra criticized the speech, stating it falsely claimed a stable government. She emphasized that the BJP lacks a clear majority and depends on multiple allies.
North-East
Moitra questioned why the President’s speech did not mention Manipur, despite the government’s claims of increased allocation and peace in the North-East.
Women’s Empowerment
She called the President’s claims of women’s empowerment untrue, highlighting the low representation of women in the Lok Sabha and BJP’s delay in the Women Reservation Act.
Kashmir
Moitra criticized the BJP for not fielding candidates in key Kashmir valley seats despite the abrogation of Section 370.
Election Commission of India
She accused the Election Commission of ignoring violations of the Model Code of Conduct by the ruling party during elections.
Infrastructure
Moitra questioned the government’s spending on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train and highlighted recent train accidents and issues with aviation safety and infrastructure projects.
Cooperative Federalism
She accused the government of withholding funds from opposition states like West Bengal and Delhi, calling it a brutal throttling of cooperative federalism.
