Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 19: TMC leader Kunal Ghosh visited the CBI office in Kolkata to convey a message from junior doctors. He explained, “Some junior doctors want to give some information to the CBI, but they do not have any access to give it, so they contacted me. If this information will be useful to them (CBI), then they (junior doctors) are ready to cooperate.” Ghosh also mentioned that he was at the CBI office for his own work and had to provide information before leaving Kolkata.

Incident at RG Kar Medical College

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. This incident has sparked nationwide protests and demands for severe punishment for the accused. The Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer the next day, but the Calcutta High Court directed the CBI to take over the investigation due to dissatisfaction with the police’s efforts.

CBI’s Advanced Investigation Techniques

The CBI is using advanced techniques like 3D laser mapping of the crime scene and psychological evaluations of the primary suspect. A psychologist from the CBI team arrived in Kolkata to assist with the investigation.

Reactions from Officials

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose criticized the state government, saying, “Bengal is not a place safe for women. Bengal has failed its women. Not the society but the present government has failed its women folk.” He plans to meet Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the situation.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari also criticized the state government for failing to ensure women’s safety. He highlighted the irony of promoting women’s empowerment while advising women not to go out at night or even during the day.

Counsel for the victim’s family, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, accused the state government of trying to influence witnesses. He condemned the Chief Minister’s actions, alleging that she attempts to buy off witnesses.

Supreme Court Involvement

The Supreme Court of India, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, will hear the case on August 20.
