Train Derailment in Uttar Pradesh: TMC Leader Demands Rail Minister’s Resignation
Accident Details
On July 18, the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express train derailed near Gonda station in Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to 31 others. The accident occurred around 2:37 pm, with 4-5 coaches derailing.

Following the derailment, medical teams and senior officials from the Lucknow division of North Eastern Railway rushed to the site. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh demanded the resignation of Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, citing repeated rail accidents and calling for moral responsibility. Ghosh stated, “There are repeated rail accidents happening, the rail minister should resign… The entire railway system and passenger security are compromised, collapsing; this is a complete failure of the Modi government… Resignation is not the solution, but if accidents keep happening repeatedly, then taking moral responsibility, he will have to resign.”
