Accident Details

On July 18, the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express train derailed near Gonda station in Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to 31 others. The accident occurred around 2:37 pm, with 4-5 coaches derailing.

Response and Rescue Operations

Following the derailment, medical teams and senior officials from the Lucknow division of North Eastern Railway rushed to the site. Rescue operations are ongoing, and helpline numbers have been issued for assistance. The Ministry of Railways has announced compensation for the victims’ families and injured passengers.

Kunal Ghosh’s Statement

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh demanded the resignation of Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, citing repeated rail accidents and calling for moral responsibility. Ghosh stated, “There are repeated rail accidents happening, the rail minister should resign… The entire railway system and passenger security are compromised, collapsing; this is a complete failure of the Modi government… Resignation is not the solution, but if accidents keep happening repeatedly, then taking moral responsibility, he will have to resign.”

Pankaj Singh, CPRO of North Eastern Railway, confirmed the derailment and the ongoing rescue operations. Uttar Pradesh’s Relief Commissioner informed that NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed to expedite relief efforts. The Ministry of Railways has also ordered a high-level inquiry into the accident.
