Tigress T-83 Safely Tranquillized and Relocated in Chandrapur, Maharashtra
On Saturday, forest officials in the Chichpalli forest range of Chandrapur district, Maharashtra, successfully tranquillized and caged a tigress identified as T-83. The operation was necessary due to the tigress’s increasing movements in human residential areas, posing a potential threat to local residents.
The tranquillization took place in compartment no. 717, located in the Janala area. Forest Range Officer Priyanka Velme led the operation with a team of sharp shooters and wildlife experts to ensure the safety of both the animal and the public. The authorities reached the site early in the morning to carry out the operation.
Residents of Chandrapur have been advised to stay alert and report any wildlife sightings to local forest officials. The captured tigress was safely relocated to a secure area within the forest range, addressing safety concerns following incidents involving the animal.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the forest team tranquillized and captured 4 tigers from the Gadchiroli Circle and 8 tigers from the Chandrapur Circle. Additionally, 8 leopards were captured during this period. Earlier this year, two fatal tiger attacks occurred in the Gadchiroli district, resulting in the deaths of Mangalabai Vitthal Bole and Sushma Devidas Mandal.
