Tibetan Leaders React to Biden and Modi’s Remarks on China at Quad Summit
Tibetan leaders have responded strongly to comments made by President Biden and Prime Minister Modi about China during the recent Quad Summit. Sikyong Pempa Tsering, President of the Central Tibetan Administration, discussed the growing importance of the Quad alliance and India’s crucial role in it. He highlighted the strategic alliance between the US and India, especially on issues like microchips, and the competition for influence in the Global South.
Tsering also emphasized the significance of the Indo-Pacific region as a major maritime trade route and the increased defense spending by countries like Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand in response to China’s actions. He noted that concerns over China’s claims in the South China Sea and East China Sea have intensified discussions about security and economic issues.
Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering also commented on the importance of the Quad and the remarks from Biden and Modi. She praised India’s growing influence and called for global leaders to advocate for Tibetan rights. Dolma highlighted the need for a peaceful resolution to global conflicts and urged leaders to address the long-standing conflict between Tibet and China.
Earlier, the Wilmington declaration of the Quad grouping expressed serious concern about coercive actions in the South China Sea and reaffirmed the importance of resolving maritime disputes peacefully and in accordance with international law.
