The India Tibet Coordination Office (ITCO) of the Central Tibetan Administration recently organized a Tibet Awareness Program in Mumbai. This initiative aimed to promote advocacy and solidarity with the Tibetan cause through various events and meetings across the city.

A Day for Tibet Program

One of the key events was the “A Day for Tibet Program” held at Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji High School in Navi Mumbai. Approximately 70 students, along with the Principal and faculty members, participated in the session themed ‘Why Tibet Matters to India.’ ITCO Coordinator Tashi Dekyi provided insights into the historical, cultural, and geopolitical ties between India and Tibet, emphasizing Tibet’s strategic relevance and environmental concerns.

Engagement with Bollywood

An advocacy meeting at Mehboob Studio involved Bollywood producer Raj Satyam and his nephew Anish Vajjala. Tashi Dekyi and Satyam discussed strategies to raise awareness about Tibet within the Hindi cinema fraternity. Additionally, Tashi Dekyi met with actor, filmmaker, and producer Shashi Ranjan to explore integrating Tibetan narratives into media projects.

Collaborative Efforts

This program marked a significant step in uniting support across various sectors, including educational institutions, media professionals, political figures, and Tibet Support Groups. The enthusiastic response from participants highlighted the potential for future partnerships and initiatives, emphasizing the ongoing need for education and awareness to inspire the younger generation to support the Tibetan cause.
