Three Labourers Die in Wall Collapse at Delhi’s Vasant Vihar Amid Heavy Rain

Three labourers were tragically killed when a wall collapsed at a construction site in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, due to heavy rain. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted a 23-hour rescue operation, recovering the bodies.

Deputy Commander of NDRF, Ajit Kumar, shared that the team received information at 9 AM and began the rescue operation by 10 AM. The first body was recovered at 5 PM, the second at 7:15 PM, and the third at 9:15 AM the next day.

The heavy rain also caused two trees to fall into the basement pit where temporary huts for labourers were situated. Teams from NDRF, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and civic agencies ensured no more people were trapped under the rubble. The bodies were taken to Safdarjung Hospital.

In addition to the wall collapse, heavy rainfall caused waterlogging and traffic disruptions across Delhi. The canopy of Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport also collapsed, killing one person and injuring eight. A technical committee is investigating the airport incident.
