A CBI court in Visakhapatnam has sentenced three former postal officers to five years of imprisonment for embezzling funds. The officers, Kodamachili Rajendra Prasad, I Satyanarayana, and P Appalaswamy, were found guilty of misappropriating Rs. 30,56,429 from depositors.

Details of the Case

The Additional Special Judge Court for CBI Cases convicted the three officers and imposed fines of Rs. 7,000, Rs. 8,29,000, and Rs. 8,59,000 respectively. The convicts were sent to Central Prison, Visakhapatnam to serve their sentences.

Background

The case was registered by the CBI on March 28, 2013. It was alleged that Kodamachili Rajendra Prasad, while working as the Sub-Post Master at Yeleswaram Sub-Post Office, conspired with I Satyanarayana and P Appalaswamy, both Postal Assistants, to cheat the Postal Department and depositors. They did not record recurring deposit amounts collected from depositors under the Mahila Pradhan Kshetriya Bachat Yojana (MPKBY) from October 21, 2009, to September 29, 2012.

The chargesheet was filed on April 25, 2014, and after a thorough investigation and trial, the court found the accused guilty.
