Thousands Protest in Israel: Calls for New Elections and Hostage Return

On Saturday night, tens of thousands of people gathered in various parts of Israel to protest against the government. They demanded new elections and the return of hostages held in Gaza.

Protests in Tel Aviv

In Tel Aviv, on Kaplan Street, famous author David Grossman read a poem urging people to fight for their country. Former Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling him the worst prime minister in Israel’s history. Diskin demanded early elections, expressing frustration over the government’s handling of the war and the failure to rescue hostages.

Protests on King George Street

Protesters also gathered on King George Street, outside the Likud party’s headquarters. Some held signs for early elections, while others called for an end to the fighting in Gaza. After the main rally, some protesters blocked the road and burned tires, leading to police intervention and arrests.

Protests Outside Netanyahu’s Residence

Thousands protested outside Prime Minister Netanyahu’s residence on Azza Street, led by families of hostages. They demanded an immediate deal and early elections, accusing the government of neglecting northern communities affected by Hezbollah fire.

Naama Levy’s Birthday Protest

In Tel Aviv, a rally was held to mark the 20th birthday of hostage Naama Levy. Protesters released balloons, chanted, and shared cupcakes, demanding the release of all hostages. Naama’s father, Yoni Levy, expressed his wish for her to be home with her family.

Protests have been ongoing every Saturday night since the war began on October 7, following a Hamas attack that killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostages.
