Thousands of Devotees Celebrate Jyeshtha Purnima with Holy Dips in Ganga

On the auspicious day of Jyeshtha Purnima, thousands of devotees gathered at sacred places in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to take holy dips in the Ganga River and offer prayers.

Key Locations

Devotees took a holy dip and offered prayers at the Sangam in Prayagraj. Garh Mukteshwar in Hapur also witnessed a throng of devotees. A sea of devotees gathered at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar, Uttarakhand to take a bath on the occasion of the full moon.

Devotee’s Perspective

A devotee at Har Ki Pauri said, “Today is Jyeshtha Purnima. This month is considered to be very auspicious. Thousands of devotees have arrived here to take a dip in holy Ganga. On this day Lord Satya Narayan is worshipped. On this day people usually donate food, clothes and utensils. People take a holy dip and seek for wishes to be fulfilled.”

Significance of Jyeshtha Purnima

On the full moon day of the Hindu calendar month of Jyeshtha, bathing in the holy Ganga and giving alms is considered to be of special importance. It is believed that bathing, worship, and fasting on this day bring blessings from Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. This brings happiness and prosperity to homes, fulfills wishes, and destroys sins. Engaging in such pious acts is also believed to lead to salvation after death.
