The theft occurred after Temple Priest Dilip Mukherjee left following the day’s worship. The cleaning staff discovered the crown missing from the deity’s head. Inspector Taizul Islam of Shyamnagar Police Station mentioned that CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify the thief.

The stolen crown, made of silver and gold-plated, holds significant cultural and religious importance. The Jeshoreshwari Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths, revered sites in Hindu mythology, located across India and neighboring countries. The name “Jeshoreshwari” translates to “Goddess of Jeshore.”
