Thane Police Investigate Death of School Abuse Accused Akshay Shinde
Thane Police are looking into the death of Akshay Shinde, a 23-year-old man accused of sexually abusing two girls at a Badlapur school. Shinde died on September 23 after police fired back when he allegedly snatched a revolver and shot at them while being transported from Taloja Central Jail.

According to Thane Police PRO Shailesh Salvi, Shinde was being taken to Badlapur for an investigation when he opened fire on the police. The police retaliated, leading to Shinde’s death. An FIR has been registered against Shinde for attempted murder.
Background
Shinde was arrested on August 17, five days after the alleged abuse. He also faced charges filed by his ex-wife. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) had filed two charge sheets against him in a special POCSO court in Badlapur, supported by witness statements and technical and medical evidence.
