Thane Crime Branch Arrests School Officials in Badlapur Case

In Thane, Maharashtra, the crime branch has arrested two individuals related to the Badlapur sexual assault case. Uday Kotwal and Tushar Apte, the president and secretary of the school where the incident occurred, were apprehended in Karjat. This follows the Bombay High Court’s rejection of their anticipatory bail pleas.

The main accused, Akshay Shinde, was killed in a police encounter in September. While being transferred from Taloja Jail to Badlapur, Shinde allegedly took a weapon from a police officer and fired shots. He was injured near the Mumbra bypass and later died in the hospital.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi criticized the Maharashtra government, led by Eknath Shinde, for its handling of the case. NCP MP Supriya Sule expressed concerns over the delay in filing the FIR and the death of the accused in custody, calling it a failure of law enforcement and justice.

In September, Akshay Shinde’s family sought the Bombay High Court’s help to find a burial site, as they faced difficulties securing land in Badlapur and Ambarnath. They filed a petition through their lawyer, Amit Katarnavare.
