Thane Court Approves Identification Parade in Badlapur Minors’ Case

A Thane Court has accepted the request of the Special Investigating Team (SIT) for a test identification parade of the accused in the Badlapur minors’ sexual assault case. The identification parade will be conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate, where the victims will identify the accused.

The case involves the alleged sexual assault of two four-year-olds inside their school in Badlapur, Maharashtra. After the identification, the SIT will prepare a psychological profile of the accused to aid further investigation.

On Friday, the SIT declared two trustees of the school absconding. The crime branch and cyber police are searching for the trustees, who are not cooperating with the investigation. Police officials reported that the trustees were not found at their homes when visited by the police.

Earlier, on August 27, the Bombay High Court emphasized the need to educate boys about gender equality from a young age to change their mindset. The court made these remarks during a hearing on the Badlapur sexual assault case. Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan suggested forming a committee to study the issue and recommend guidelines for schools to prevent such incidents.

On August 23, the SIT registered an FIR against the school authorities for not complying with Section 19 of the POCSO Act, which mandates reporting any known sexual assault against minors to the police. The investigation is led by the deputy director of the Mumbai region, involving various departments.
