Ten Militants Killed in Manipur Encounter

Location: Jiribam, Manipur, India

On Monday, a fierce encounter took place in Jiribam, Manipur, where ten militants were killed by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Civil Police. The incident occurred around 3 PM when militants attacked the CRPF Post at Jakuradhor and the nearby Borobekra Police Station.

During the attack, CRPF constable Sanjeev Kumar was injured and is currently receiving treatment at Silchar Medical College in Assam. The security forces responded strongly, and after 40-45 minutes of heavy gunfire, the situation was brought under control.

Following the encounter, a search of the area led to the recovery of ten militant bodies along with various weapons, including AKS rifles, SLRS, INSAS rifles, an RPG, a pump-action gun, BP helmets, and magazines.

A criminal case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing. Reinforcement teams from Assam Rifles, CRPF, and Civil Police have been deployed to continue operations in the area to flush out remaining militants.

Background

Violence in Manipur began on May 3 last year after clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) protesting the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.
