South Africa’s Temba Bavuma Misses First Test Against Bangladesh
South Africa’s cricket captain, Temba Bavuma, will not participate in the team’s first Test match against Bangladesh due to a muscle strain in his left triceps. Aiden Markram will take over as captain in Bavuma’s absence. Despite the injury, Bavuma will travel with the team to Dhaka to continue his recovery under the guidance of the Proteas medical team, aiming to return for the second Test.
This is not the first injury setback for Bavuma recently. On October 6, he was also ruled out of the third ODI against Ireland due to an elbow injury. During the second ODI, he retired hurt and did not return to the field. Rassie van der Dussen led the team in his absence, with Markram resting for the series.
South Africa is also dealing with another injury concern as left-arm seamer Nandre Burger has been ruled out of the entire tour due to a lumbar stress reaction. Dewald Brevis and Lungi Ngidi have been added to the squad. Ngidi performed well in the ODIs against Ireland, taking four wickets in the first two matches. He will join a strong pace attack alongside Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson, and Wiaan Mulder. Brevis has received his first call-up for the Test format.
The two-match Test series against Bangladesh will start on October 21 at Sher-e-Bangla, Dhaka, with the second Test beginning on October 29 in Chittagong.
