Telecom Services Restored in Flood-Hit Tripura by BSNL, Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has been working hard to bring back telecom services in Tripura, which was hit by severe floods. The floods, caused by heavy rain from August 19 to 23, damaged many telecom towers and disrupted services.

Thanks to the efforts of telecom companies like BSNL, Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone, over 94% of the network has been restored. This has been very important for keeping communication open for rescue teams, government officials, and the people living there.

The DoT has been closely monitoring the situation with its North East Licence Service Area (NE-LSA) unit and the telecom companies. They quickly responded by working with the State Administration and State Disaster Management unit to fix the network.

From August 22 to 27, the DoT enforced Intra Circle Roaming (ICR), allowing customers to use any available network, no matter their subscription. Telecom companies also replaced damaged equipment and took other steps to keep people connected.

Jio extended the validity of its prepaid plans by four days for customers whose plans had expired or were about to expire. Airtel offered 1.5 GB of free data per day and unlimited calling for four days to customers who couldn’t recharge their plans. Bill payment dates for post-paid customers were also extended by 30 days.
