Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy Highlights Women’s Empowerment Schemes
Telangana Civil Supplies and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized the Congress government’s focus on women’s empowerment through various schemes. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Nerella Sharada as the Chairperson of the Telangana State Commission for Women, he highlighted several initiatives.
Key Schemes for Women’s Empowerment
Reddy mentioned that schemes like Mahalakshmi, Gruha Jyothi, and Indiramma Indlu have significantly benefitted women:
- Mahalakshmi Scheme: Provides free travel for women in RTC buses, with 55 crore zero tickets issued.
- Gruha Jyothi Scheme: Offers free electricity up to 200 units, reducing household expenses.
- Indiramma Indlu Scheme: Aims to provide houses to homeless families, with 4.50 lakh houses sanctioned in the first phase.
Reddy assured that these schemes would be fine-tuned to include more beneficiaries, ensuring every eligible woman receives the benefits.
Commitment to Women’s Safety and Empowerment
Reddy emphasized the Congress government’s commitment to women’s safety and socio-economic empowerment. He criticized the previous BRS regime for neglecting women and highlighted the Congress party’s efforts to provide equal opportunities for growth in all sectors.
He expressed hope that Nerella Sharada, as the new Chairperson of the Women’s Commission, would play an active role in furthering women’s empowerment in Telangana.
