Telangana Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya Celebrate Bonalu Festival in Hyderabad
As the Bonalu festival is being celebrated, Telangana Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy visited and offered prayers at Bhagyalakshmi Temple in Hyderabad. Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya also visited and offered prayers at Simhavahini Mahankali temple in Hyderabad.
Bandaru Dattatreya emphasized the importance of respecting and protecting women in society. Komatireddy Venkat Reddy presented silk clothes to the goddess at the temple as an offering.
The Bonalu festival is a traditional Hindu celebration dedicated to Goddess Mahakali, observed predominantly in Telangana. It involves special poojas and offerings by women, who prepare rice with jaggery in new earthen pots adorned with turmeric, vermillion, and neem leaves. A lamp is lit on top of the pot, which is carried on their heads to offer to Goddess Yellamma.
In view of the festival, all liquor shops, including non-proprietary clubs, star hotels, and restaurants, will not sell or serve liquor across Hyderabad.
