Tejashwi Yadav Criticizes Nitish Kumar’s Liquor Ban Amid Bihar Hooch Tragedy

In New Delhi, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has criticized the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar following a tragic incident involving illegal alcohol, known as the hooch tragedy, which resulted in 33 deaths. Yadav accused the liquor ban of being the “biggest corruption” under Nitish Kumar’s rule, claiming it supports a “parallel economy” worth 30,000 crores.

Yadav alleged that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who previously opened numerous liquor shops, is now pretending to be a moral leader. He highlighted that 28 victims were from Siwan and 5 from Saran, sparking political debates about the effectiveness of the liquor ban.

On social media, Yadav questioned Kumar’s past actions, stating that liquor shops in rural areas increased significantly during Kumar’s tenure. He claimed that confiscated liquor is sold illegally with the involvement of JDU leaders and police officials.

Yadav referenced a National Family Health Survey, noting that more people consume alcohol in Bihar than in Maharashtra, despite the prohibition. He also mentioned that over 400 people are arrested in alcohol-related cases in Bihar, suggesting the ban is ineffective.

Meanwhile, Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Awdhesh Dixit reported that a Special Investigation Team is investigating the tragedy, with 14 arrests made and raids conducted at over 200 locations.
