Tejashwi Yadav Criticizes Bihar Government Over Hooch Tragedy

In Patna, Bihar, former Deputy Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized the NDA government following a tragic incident involving spurious liquor that claimed 25 lives in Sivan and Saran. Yadav accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s administration of failing to enforce the state’s liquor ban effectively, stating it exists only “on paper.” He expressed disappointment that no government officials have shown empathy or visited the victims’ families.

Yadav further alleged that the government is attempting to cover up its failures, with the Excise Department acting improperly. He questioned the effectiveness of review meetings held by the Chief Minister, noting the absence of key officials like the DGP and Principal Secretary.

Meanwhile, the DGP reported 12 arrests related to the tragedy. Saran Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish mentioned that the substance involved was likely industrial spirit, and investigations are ongoing. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, and recent raids recovered 1,650 liters of alcohol.

Saran District Magistrate Aman Samir stated that families of the deceased must support the liquor ban to receive compensation. An ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh will be provided if post-mortem conditions are met. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
