Tejashwi Yadav Advocates for Nationwide Caste Census and Quota Inclusion in Bihar

Patna (Bihar) [India], September 1: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday called for a nationwide caste census and the inclusion of Bihar’s 65% quota increase in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. He emphasized that many prominent socialist leaders have historically discussed caste issues.

Yadav criticized the BJP for opposing the caste census, accusing them of wanting to keep the poor in poverty. He stated, “BJP wants the son of a garbage collector and the next generation to clean drains his entire life… Those who are beggars should be kept as beggars all their lives. This is the mentality of the BJP.”

He also highlighted ongoing societal discrimination and the need to understand the conditions of different castes to combat poverty. Yadav questioned the JDU’s stance on the reservation issue, asking, “I just have a question for the JD(U) – whether they want reservation that was increased by the Mahagathbandhan government to be included in the 9th Schedule (of Constitution) or not?”

The RJD held a state-wide one-day sit-in protest demanding a nationwide caste census and the inclusion of the 65% quota increase in Bihar in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. Tejashwi Yadav participated in the protest from the party office on Beerchand Patel Path.
