Team India Wins T20 World Cup 2024 but Gets Stuck in Barbados Due to Hurricane

Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, has won the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa by seven runs in Barbados. This is the second time India has won the prestigious T20 WC trophy.

However, the team is currently stranded in Barbados due to a hurricane warning. Hurricane Beryl is expected to pass by Barbados on Sunday night, leading to airport closures and a city-wide curfew. The team is staying at the Hilton Hotel.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah said, “Like you we are also stuck here. After the travel plans are clear, we will think about the felicitation.”

Match Highlights

India won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite an early setback at 34/3, a strong partnership between Virat Kohli (76) and Axar Patel (47) helped India reach 176/7 in 20 overs. South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje were the top bowlers, taking two wickets each.

In response, South Africa was reduced to 12/2 but fought back with contributions from Quinton de Kock (39) and Heinrich Klaasen (52). However, India’s bowlers Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya made a strong comeback, restricting South Africa to 169/8.

Virat Kohli was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance. This victory marks India’s first ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
