Team India Returns Home After T20 World Cup Win Amid Hurricane Beryl

Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, departed from Barbados on a special Air India flight after being stranded due to Hurricane Beryl. The team, along with Indian media members, is expected to land in New Delhi on Thursday.

India’s T20 World Cup Victory

In the final match, India won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite an early setback at 34/3, a strong partnership between Virat Kohli (76) and Axar Patel (47) helped India reach 176/7 in 20 overs. South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje were the top bowlers.

During South Africa’s chase of 177 runs, they were reduced to 12/2. Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs brought them back into the game, but India’s bowlers Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya made a strong comeback, restricting South Africa to 169/8. Virat Kohli was named ‘Player of the Match’.

Stranded Due to Hurricane Beryl

Just hours after their win, the team was confined to their hotel rooms as Hurricane Beryl hit Barbados, causing airport closures and affecting electricity and water supply. A special flight arranged by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah brought the team and media members back to India.

This victory marks India’s first ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
