Team India Arrives in Chennai for First Test Against Bangladesh
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 13: Team India has gathered at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium ahead of their first Test match against Bangladesh, which starts on September 19. The Indian cricket team arrived at the Chennai Airport on Thursday night. Star players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul were seen boarding the team bus at the airport.
The two-match series will begin on September 19 in Chennai, with the second game starting on September 27 in Kanpur. This series marks the first Test assignment for head coach Gautam Gambhir, who is eager to secure a series win. The newly-appointed bowling coach, South African legend Morne Morkel, has also joined the team.
Team India’s official Instagram page posted, “The countdown starts as #TeamIndia begin their preps for an exciting home season.”
Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the Test side. Pacers Akash Deep and Yash Dayal have received their first call-ups, while wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant returns to Test cricket for the first time since his accident in December 2022. Virat Kohli will also return to the Test format after missing the home series against England due to the birth of his son.
KL Rahul is back in the Test setup after an injury, and Jasprit Bumrah returns after his match-winning performance in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa. The spin quartet of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav will provide both batting and bowling strength. Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Yash Dayal will form India’s pace lineup.
For Bangladesh, uncapped batter Jaker Ali replaces injured pacer Shoriful Islam. Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, and Khaled Ahmed will lead Bangladesh’s pace attack. Najmul Hossain Shanto will captain the squad, which recently achieved a historic 2-0 Test series win against Pakistan.
