Teachers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Protest for Job Upgrades

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, hundreds of school teachers gathered near Jinnah Park to protest against the government, demanding job upgrades. The protest was organized by the All Primary Teachers Association, led by President Azizullah. He stated that thousands of teachers are frustrated and have joined the protest. The teachers threatened to continue their protest overnight and march to the provincial assembly if their demands are not met.

Azizullah mentioned that the education department had approved the job upgrades, but the finance department’s reluctance has stalled the process. The finance department claimed the cost of the upgrades to be PKR 30 billion, while the actual cost is around PKR 8-9 billion. The previous government’s decision to upgrade posts was dismissed by the current government due to legal and administrative issues.

Classes were not held as over 25,000 teachers participated in the protest. The teachers have vowed to continue their strike until their demands are accepted. A similar protest had occurred earlier, warning the government of further actions if their demands were not addressed.
