TDP Leader Nawab Jan Opposes Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024

In New Delhi, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Nawab Jan, an ally of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), expressed strong opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. He assured that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would not allow any bill that harms Muslim interests to pass. Speaking at the ‘Samvidhan Bachao Sammelan’ organized by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Nawab Jan urged unity to prevent the bill’s passage in Parliament.

Nawab Jan highlighted the unprecedented benefits Muslims received under Naidu’s leadership, emphasizing Naidu’s secular mindset. He stated, “Our CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu is a secular-minded person. He says that Hindus and Muslims are two eyes of the body, any harm done to one eye affects the whole body and I can’t tolerate this.”

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 aims to reform the management of waqf properties by introducing digitization, stricter audits, and legal mechanisms to reclaim illegally occupied properties. The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is gathering input from various stakeholders to ensure comprehensive reform.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with support from allies like TDP and Janata Dal (United), forms the central government. TDP and JD-U are key allies, with 16 and 12 MPs in the Lok Sabha, respectively. The BJP-led NDA secured its third consecutive term with 293 seats, including 240 for BJP.
