TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu Issues Whip for Lok Sabha Speaker Election

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has instructed its Members of Parliament (MPs) to be present in the Parliament on June 26, 2024, for the election of the Lok Sabha Speaker. The TDP, led by Nara Chandrababu Naidu, is an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Details of the Whip:

Harish Balayogi, the Whip of the TDP, has mandated all TDP MPs to gather in the Parliamentary office, Room Number 111-B, by 10:30 AM and vote for the NDA candidate, Om Birla.

Opposition’s Stand:

The opposition INDIA bloc has nominated Congress MP K Suresh for the Speaker’s post, as they were unable to reach a consensus on BJP MP Om Birla. Rahul Gandhi mentioned that the opposition would support the NDA’s candidate if the Deputy Speaker position is given to them.

Current Scenario:

The NDA, with 293 MPs, holds a clear majority in the 543-member Lok Sabha, while the opposition INDIA bloc has 234 MPs. The elections for the Speaker’s post will be held on June 26, 2024.
