New Delhi [India], July 18: Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NHPC Renewable Energy Limited (NHPC-REL) to install Rooftop Solar Projects (RTS Projects) on government buildings across central ministries, states, and union territories. This initiative is part of the PM Surya Ghar Yojna Scheme, which aims for 100% solarisation of government-owned buildings by December 2025.

The MoU was signed at the NHPC Office complex in Faridabad by Deepesh Nanda, CEO & MD of TPREL, and S.P. Rathour, CEO of NHPC-REL. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has appointed NHPC Limited as a Scheme Implementing Partner (SIP) to drive the RTS Projects, which will be carried out by its wholly owned subsidiary, NHPC-REL.

TPREL, a leader in the solar energy sector, will bring its expertise to ensure the seamless and timely execution of these projects. The MoU aims to transform India’s energy landscape by utilizing the untapped potential of rooftop spaces on government buildings, promoting a cleaner and greener future.

R. P. Goyal, CMD of NHPC, said, “Partnering with Tata Power Renewables aligns perfectly with our mission to expand the use of renewable energy in India. This initiative will not only help us meet our solarisation targets but also contribute significantly to reducing the carbon footprint of government buildings. We look forward to a successful collaboration that paves the way for more sustainable energy solutions.”

Deepesh Nanda, CEO & MD of TPREL, added, “This collaboration represents a major step forward in our shared vision of a sustainable and green energy future. By leveraging our combined strengths, we are confident in achieving our goal of 100% solarisation by 2025, setting a benchmark for renewable energy projects in the country.”

Doubts Revealed

Tata Power -: Tata Power is a big company in India that provides electricity to homes and businesses. They are working on making more electricity using the sun.

NHPC -: NHPC stands for National Hydroelectric Power Corporation. It’s a company in India that makes electricity using water, and now they are also working with solar power.

MoU -: MoU stands for Memorandum of Understanding. It’s like a promise between two companies to work together on a project.

Rooftop Solar Projects -: Rooftop Solar Projects are solar panels placed on the roofs of buildings to capture sunlight and turn it into electricity.

PM Surya Ghar Yojna Scheme -: This is a government plan in India to put solar panels on homes and buildings to use sunlight for electricity.

Solarisation -: Solarisation means using solar power to provide electricity. In this case, it means making sure all government buildings use solar power.

Carbon footprint -: Carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide (a gas that can harm the environment) that is released into the air. Using solar power helps reduce this.

Sustainable energy solutions -: These are ways to make electricity that do not harm the environment, like using sunlight, wind, or water.
