Tata Group and Somerville College to Build Ratan Tata Building at Oxford
The Tata Group and Somerville College at the University of Oxford are joining forces to construct the Ratan Tata Building. This new building will expand Somerville’s teaching and learning space, support impactful research, and embody the College’s vision for a sustainable academic community. Construction is set to begin next year.
The project is a tribute to the late Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group, recognizing his lifelong philanthropic and humanitarian efforts. His recent passing adds deeper significance to this tribute.
The building will feature seminar rooms, offices, shared study spaces, and accommodations for visiting academics, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. It will be located at Oxford’s Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, thanks to a significant donation from the Tata Group.
Baroness Royall, Principal of Somerville College, expressed gratitude to Mr. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of the Tata Group, for this collaboration, which strengthens ties between Oxford and India.
