Jammu and Kashmir Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra has filed his nomination papers for the Central Shalteng assembly constituency ahead of the upcoming assembly polls. Karra, a resident of Batmaloo, emphasized his dedication to his community, stating, “I come here to meet my people whenever something big or good has to be done.”

Karra also commented on the presence of independent candidates, suggesting they are being used to divide votes. He urged the people to discern what is right and wrong, asserting, “People of J&K know that I am the only one who has made strict decisions in the interest of people.”

Earlier in the day, BJP Jammu and Kashmir chief Ravinder Raina filed his nomination for the Nowshera Assembly constituency. Raina highlighted a strong wave of support for the BJP across the Union Territory.

Jammu and Kashmir has 90 assembly constituencies, with 7 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 9 for Scheduled Tribes (STs). In the previous elections, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won 28 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 25, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) won 15, and the Congress won 12.

The upcoming polling will be conducted in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. Congress has allied with the National Conference to contest the polls.
