Taranjit Singh Sandhu Discusses Joe Biden’s Decision to Step Back from 2024 Presidential Race
India’s former envoy to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, described Joe Biden’s decision to step back from running for President as a ‘rare happening’ and an ‘interesting development’ in US politics. Sandhu noted that Biden’s health concerns and pressure from the Democratic Party influenced his decision.
Sandhu explained, ‘This is a rare happening where a President who has already got the number of primary votes has stepped back. So, in that sense, it’s a very interesting political development.’
He added that questions about Biden’s health and his ability to serve a full term played a role in the decision. Sandhu emphasized the dynamic nature of both US and Indian political systems.
Biden announced his decision to not seek re-election in the ‘best interest’ of the Democratic Party and the country. He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee and called on Democrats to unite against Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Biden’s withdrawal follows his positive COVID-19 test and a challenging debate performance with Trump on June 27.
