Tamil Nadu Tragedy: 17 Dead from Methanol-Laced Liquor in Kallakurichi

In Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, 17 people have died after consuming methanol-laced liquor. The victims were hospitalized at the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital. As of now, 32 people are still undergoing treatment.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Subramaniam Ma visited the victims at the hospital and inquired about their treatment. He stated that 185 people have been hospitalized across four hospitals: Kallakurichi Hospital, JIPMER Hospital in Puducherry, Salem Government Hospital, and Viluppuram Government Hospital. The total death toll has reached 50.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that the state government will cover the education and hostel expenses for children who have lost one or both parents in this tragedy.

Three accused in the Kallakurichi illicit liquor case, named Govindaraj, Damadoran, and Vijaya, have been sent to 15 days of judicial custody and taken to Cudallore Central Prison.
