Tamil Nadu Minister Anbil Mahesh Stops ‘Spiritual Awakening Classes’ in Schools

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 6 – Tamil Nadu’s Education Minister, Anbil Mahesh, announced on Friday that ‘Spiritual Awakening Classes’ will no longer be conducted in the state. This decision follows a controversy at a government school in Chennai where such a session was held.

Minister Mahesh stated, “Strong action will be taken. Following the action, such events will never happen in Tamil Nadu.” He also met with the teacher involved in the incident.

The controversy began after a video of the session, conducted by Paramporul Foundation at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Ashok Nagar, went viral on social media. This led to questions from DMK supporters about the state government’s and education department’s role.

Chief Minister MK Stalin responded by highlighting the importance of scientific education. He said, “Our high-quality textbooks contain the best scientific ideas that students need to know. The teachers themselves can bring out the best ideas needed to face future challenges with confidence and sharpen the knowledge.” He also mentioned that the School Education Department would provide innovative training and social education with the help of experts and scholars.

Additionally, Minister Mahesh inspected the school and participated in an event titled ‘Education-the best weapon to spread equality’. During the event, he addressed the students, urging them to focus on their studies and think critically about what is right and wrong. He said, “Students should focus on studies. Students should think for themselves with their knowledge what is right and what is wrong. Analyse everything with reasoning. All are equal. Education is the only asset which cannot be stolen.”
