Minister Ma Subramanian’s Statement

On Monday, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian confirmed that five people died due to excessive heat during the Air Force Air Show at Marina Beach, Chennai. The event took place on Sunday, and a total of 102 people were affected by the heat, with 93 initially hospitalized. Sadly, five individuals were brought in dead to various hospitals.

Current Hospitalization Status

Minister Subramanian reported that the situation has improved, with only seven people remaining in hospitals. The patients are distributed across Omandurar, Rajiv Gandhi, and Royapet Hospitals.

Precautionary Measures and Government Response

The Health Minister mentioned that the Indian Air Force (IAF) had informed attendees to bring umbrellas and water bottles as precautions. He also stated that the Tamil Nadu government had coordinated with the IAF to ensure the event’s success, holding several meetings to address the IAF’s requirements.

Opposition’s Criticism

Despite these efforts, the opposition criticized the DMK government for inadequate administrative arrangements. BJP Tamil Nadu Vice President Narayanan Thirupathy blamed the government for poor planning and traffic management, which he claims led to the tragic loss of lives.
