Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian Says State Opposes NEET Exam

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 19: Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian announced on Monday that the state does not need the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and that other states share this viewpoint. He stated, “Counselling for medical college will start from August 21. We don’t need the NEET exam. We are working on it. The government is taking all steps against the NEET.”

Subramanian added, “Not only Tamil Nadu but many other states have joined to oppose the NEET exam. Yesterday too, our minister, Durai Murugan started his speech opposing the NEET exam.”

The DMK-led Tamil Nadu government is opposed to NEET. Party leaders have said that either the NEET exam should be abolished or assent should be given to Tamil Nadu’s NEET exemption Bill that aims to exclude the state from the medical entrance exam.

This year, there was controversy over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the NEET exam. Over 23 lakh students appeared in the exam. The CBI is probing the complaints of rigging and has made arrests in a case.
