Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Urges Release of Fishermen Detained by Sri Lankan Navy
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, called on the Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, to take action for the release of Tamil Nadu fishermen and their boats detained by the Sri Lankan Navy. In a letter, Stalin detailed that on November 9, the Sri Lankan Navy apprehended 23 fishermen from Rameswaram along with two mechanized fishing boats. Again, on November 12, another boat and 12 fishermen from Nagapattinam were detained. Stalin emphasized that the number of apprehensions in 2024 is the highest in seven years, causing significant distress to the fishermen’s families and disrupting their livelihoods. He urged for immediate diplomatic efforts to prevent further arrests and secure the release of the detained fishermen and their boats.
