Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin and BJP’s K Annamalai Debate Over OBC Medical Seats

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 29: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin recently announced that over 15,000 medical and dental seats have been secured for OBC students in the last three academic years. He credited this achievement to the legal efforts of the DMK.

In response, BJP Tamil Nadu unit president K. Annamalai clarified that the all-India quota for medical admission was introduced in 1986, not recently. He pointed out that OBC reservations in Central educational institutions were allowed in 2008-09, but not for the all-India quota in medical admissions until later.

CM Stalin emphasized the need for a caste census to ensure social justice and proper representation for backward communities. He praised the role of @aifsoj in promoting discussions on OBC reservations.

Annamalai responded by detailing the history of OBC reservations in medical admissions, noting that the Central Government supported these reservations and that the Supreme Court upheld their validity in January 2022.

The debate highlights differing perspectives on the history and implementation of OBC reservations in medical education.
