Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 10: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has written to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, urging action to secure the release and repatriation of 35 fishermen and their boats apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy.

In his letter, CM Stalin expressed deep concern over the ongoing detentions, which are causing immense hardship to the affected families and creating fear in coastal communities. He highlighted a recent meeting between the External Affairs Minister and a delegation from Tamil Nadu, which included MPs and fishermen representatives, following the death of two fishermen.

Despite this meeting, there has been no significant relief. CM Stalin emphasized the psychological and financial toll on the families and the difficulty in continuing their traditional way of life. He called for stronger diplomatic measures to ensure the immediate release of the fishermen and to establish a permanent solution to prevent such incidents from recurring.

Stalin stressed that the safety and security of coastal communities must be a priority and urged the Government of India to take decisive action.
