Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin Seeks Help for Fishermen Arrested by Bahrain Coast Guard
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 26: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has urged External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar to take immediate diplomatic steps to ensure consular access and legal assistance for the early release of 28 fishermen from Idinthakarai fishing village in Tirunelveli district. These fishermen were apprehended by the Bahrain Coast Guard on September 11 for inadvertently crossing the border while working in Iran.
In a letter, CM Stalin highlighted that the boats belonged to Iranian nationals and stressed the severe impact on the families of the fishermen, who rely heavily on their income. He requested the EAM to act swiftly to secure the fishermen’s release.
