Tamil Nadu Assembly Suspends AIADMK MLAs Amid Kallakurichi Hooch Tragedy Discussion

In the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Speaker M Appavu suspended AIADMK MLAs for one business day after they demanded a detailed discussion on the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy. The opposition party created a ruckus, leading to the suspension.

DMK Minister KN Nehru initially asked for a longer suspension, but Chief Minister MK Stalin intervened, suggesting a one-day suspension instead. Speaker Appavu agreed and ordered the removal of the MLAs from the assembly.

Chief Minister Stalin explained that the AIADMK was creating a planned disturbance to divert attention. He assured that the Kallakurichi tragedy would be discussed after the Question and Answer session.

The hooch tragedy in Kallakurichi district has resulted in 59 deaths, with 223 patients admitted to various hospitals. AIADMK leader D Jayakumar criticized the DMK-led government, alleging involvement of top leaders and questioning why the case was not transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
