Taiwan Reports 17 Chinese Aircraft and 8 Naval Vessels Near Its Territory

On June 25, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence reported a significant escalation in tensions with China. As of 6 am, 17 aircraft from China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and 8 vessels from the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) were detected operating around Taiwan.

According to the Ministry, 10 of these aircraft entered Taiwan’s southwestern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ), prompting a response from Taiwan’s Armed Forces. The Taiwanese military has been closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary actions.

The Ministry of National Defence emphasized Taiwan’s commitment to safeguarding its territorial integrity and maintaining regional stability amid heightened military activities. The presence of Chinese military assets near Taiwan has raised international concerns, especially given the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Asia-Pacific region.

Since September 2020, China has increased its use of grey zone tactics, which involve incremental military activities to achieve security objectives without direct force. This latest incident adds to a series of similar provocations by China in recent months.

China continues to assert its sovereignty over Taiwan, considering it a part of its territory and insisting on eventual reunification, by force if necessary.
