Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Activity
Increased Presence of Chinese Forces
On November 12, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the detection of ten aircraft and five naval vessels from China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Navy (PLAN) near Taiwan. Eight of these aircraft crossed the median line, entering Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) in various regions.
Response from Taiwan
The Taiwanese MND has been actively monitoring the situation and responding to these activities. On the previous day, seven Chinese aircraft and five vessels were detected, with two aircraft crossing into Taiwan’s ADIZ.
China’s Military Tactics
Since September 2020, China has increased its military presence around Taiwan, employing grey zone tactics to meet its security goals. In response, Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te held a national security conference, reassuring the public of the government’s dedication to safeguarding Taiwan’s democracy and security.
Modernization Efforts
In a move to modernize its military, President Lai Ching-te attended a ceremony for a new light frigate prototype for the Taiwanese Navy on November 4.
