Chinese Military Activity Around Taiwan

On November 9, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported increased Chinese military activity. They detected 12 aircraft, five naval vessels, and one official ship from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Navy (PLAN) near Taiwan. Nine of these aircraft crossed the median line into Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).

Response from Taiwan

The Taiwanese MND has been monitoring the situation closely and has responded to these activities. On November 8, they detected 11 PLA aircraft and five PLAN vessels, with seven aircraft crossing the median line into Taiwan’s ADIZ.

President Lai Ching-te’s Assurance

Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te held a national security conference to assure the public of the government’s commitment to safeguarding Taiwan’s democracy and security. This came after China’s military drills, “Joint Sword-2024B,” were announced as a warning to Taiwan independence advocates.

Modernization Efforts

In efforts to modernize Taiwan’s defense, President Lai attended a keel-laying ceremony for a new light frigate prototype for the Republic of China Navy (ROCN) on November 4 at the Kaohsiung shipyard.
