Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Activity: 25 Aircraft and 7 Naval Vessels Detected

Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Activity

On October 14, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the detection of 25 Chinese military aircraft, seven naval vessels, and four official ships operating around Taiwan. Of these, 16 aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, entering Taiwan’s southwestern and eastern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). In response, Taiwan deployed aircraft, naval ships, and coastal-based missile systems to monitor the situation.

China’s recent military actions are part of a pattern of provocations that have increased since September 2020. These actions include regular air and naval incursions into Taiwan’s ADIZ and military exercises near the island. China has been using gray zone tactics, which involve efforts to achieve security objectives without direct force.

Recently, China launched large-scale military drills around Taiwan, simulating strikes on sea and land targets. These drills, named “Joint Sword 2024-B,” are intended to test the joint operations capabilities of China’s Eastern Theater Command. The exercises include sea-air combat-readiness patrols, blockades, and assaults on maritime and ground targets.

Taiwan’s Defence Ministry condemned China’s actions as irrational and provocative, stating that they have sent troops to protect the island. Taiwan’s Coast Guard has also established a response center, warning that Beijing’s actions threaten peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
