Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Activity and Unveils New Defense Equipment

On October 12, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported that 24 Chinese military aircraft and 10 naval vessels were detected around Taiwan from Friday morning to Saturday morning. Of these, 22 aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, entering Taiwan’s central, southwestern, and eastern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). In response, Taiwan deployed aircraft, naval ships, and coastal missile systems to monitor the situation.

Since September 2020, China has increased its military presence around Taiwan, using gray zone tactics to assert its claim over the island. These tactics involve actions that fall short of direct conflict but aim to achieve security objectives. China views Taiwan as part of its territory and has expressed intentions to reunify it with the mainland, potentially by force.

Amid these tensions, Taiwan’s MND Armanenets Bureau introduced updated T112 assault rifles and redesigned bullet-resistant panels. The new rifles feature improved triggers and grips, while the panels can withstand 5.8mm steel core bullets, despite Taiwan not having access to these bullets for testing. The new panels are slightly heavier than the current ones but offer enhanced protection. The first batch of 60,000 units is expected to be delivered next year.
