Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Aircraft and Naval Vessels Near Its Borders

On October 7, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the detection of 27 Chinese military aircraft and six naval vessels operating around Taiwan. This activity was observed from 6 am on Sunday to 6 am on Monday. Notably, 19 of these aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line, entering Taiwan’s northern, central, southwestern, and eastern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ).

In a statement, Taiwan’s MND confirmed, “27 PLA aircraft and 6 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today. 19 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s northern, central, and southwestern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.”

This incident follows a similar event on Sunday, where four Chinese military aircraft and six naval vessels were detected. Two of these aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line. Taiwan’s MND has been vigilant in monitoring these activities and responding as necessary.

China has been increasing its military presence near Taiwan, with regular air and naval incursions into Taiwan’s ADIZ and military exercises near the island. Since September 2020, China has been using gray zone tactics, gradually increasing the number of military aircraft and naval vessels around Taiwan.
