Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Activity Near Its Borders

On October 6, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the detection of four Chinese military aircraft and six naval vessels operating around Taiwan from 6 am Saturday to 6 am Sunday. Two of these aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line, entering Taiwan’s Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the north, central, southwest, and east regions. The MND assured that the situation was monitored and responded to accordingly.

After a three-day pause in Chinese military activity, Taiwan detected 13 People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft and three naval vessels on Saturday. Eight of these aircraft crossed the median line into Taiwan’s southwestern ADIZ. The MND confirmed that they have been vigilant and responsive to these activities.

From October 1 to 4, no PLA aircraft or naval vessels were detected around Taiwan. However, recent months have seen an increase in Chinese military activities near Taiwan, including air and naval incursions and military exercises. Since September 2020, China has been using gray zone tactics, gradually increasing military presence around Taiwan.
